HMg Bestiary... Coming Very Soon
I had the good fortune to preview an advance copy of Keléstia Productions' forthcoming publication, HârnMaster Gold Bestiary. Ever since HârnMaster 1st Edition went out of print, Hârniacs have been without a proper bestiary. Although Columbia Games have been rectifying this problem piecemeal through the HârnQuest issues, a HM3 bestiary is still far from complete.
The HMg Bestiary is an excellent GM supplement. The layout is sensible, with a full page being devoted to each creature, and every entry featuring background information, game stats and colour illustrations that convey the right medieval feel. At last count, there were over 60 entries, although there were no entries at all for aquatic beasts (you'll have to buy the article from HQ4 for info on those - only US$2.99).
As an added bonus, the Bestiary also features an Ivashu Generation Table to create completely random Ivashu! This is something I've been looking forward to for over a decade - why hadn't this been thought of earlier?!
As far as compatibility is concerned, there are only minor differences between HMg and HM3, so GameMasters shouldn't find any difficulty porting the creatures from this publication across to HM3 (and vice versa - there are a few creatures from the HârnQuest issues that are not found in this Bestiary). The key difference is probably Movement rates - HM3 quadrupeds such as horses are a lot quicker than their HMg cousins (e.g. a typical HM3 Reksyni can gallop 108 hexes in a round, compared with a typical HMg Warhorse, which can manage only 32 hexes in the same period).
New Link
A new link has been forged on HÂRN LINK. The link, which is primarily in Swedish, is this:
Rollspelshörnan by Peter Brink
To get the most benefit from this site, you need to register (free, of course - I'd never link to a site where you had to pay to get in). In its present form, the Hârnic content is rather thin, with only 5 Hârn-specific files available for download. However, this can be forgiven seeing as the site is so new (only a few days old, it seems!) - more content is sure to follow.
