House Rules Update

It's been a while since I've posted a completely new article in my House Rules page. This article is an 'off-cut' from the Tournament and Royal Chelebin Tournament of Chivalry articles I wrote for HârnQuest 2 and 3, and is in a way a supplement to the Jousting rules I wrote for HârnMaster Third Edition. It provides HM3 rules for running tournament events such as the Melee, Archery Contest, Quintain, etc. Enjoy...

New Official Site

In the aftermath of what happened last week, Robin Crossby has today launched a new, official Hârn website:

Keléstia.com by N. Robin Crossby

The site has only just launched, so keep checking back to see what is new. There are already some nice downloads available there, and something for the real hardcore fans, you can buy HârnMaster Gold Players Edition v2.1 as well.

Hârn... TERMINATED?!?!

Talk about sh!t hitting the fan... Here's the public clashing of swords that took place recently on the HârnForum regarding the publishing of Hârn, between the author (N. Robin Crossby) and the publisher (Columbia Games):

The first strike: http://www.harnforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2446

The counterstrike and riposte: http://www.harnforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2451

I won't reprint the text here as there is a lot of it. The gist of it, though, is that Robin and Columbia Games have had another falling out, this time more serious than ever before, to the point that Robin has formally terminated his contract with Columbia Games. Where things will go from here is uncertain - according to Robin, only he can publish new Hârn material from now on, but according to Columbia Games, business is as usual (minus Robin's contributions, I suppose).

Fan responses can be found here:

HÂRN LINK Update

Hârn-related news has been a bit slow of late, but that hasn't stopped dedicated fans from revamping their websites. The latest site to undergo a transformation is the following site:

BronzeWorks by Jocke Andersson

The site has a new look, that's for certain, and even a forum. But for now all the Hârn-related material that used to be available have been temporarily left off until Jocke finalises his design. Keep checking back, though, as he promises that the old stuff will be available within a week.

House Rules Update

The only update of note is a small revision to the HMA GM Screen, where the ranges of the various crossbows have been modified to reflect their draw strength.

One question that has been asked of me is why the crossbows have such weak draw weights (up to only 80lbs), while historical heavy crossbows have reached amazing draw weights (e.g. 1200lbs). The main reason for this is that crossbows are not widely used in Hârn, and so crossbow spanning technology is relatively unknown. Hârnic crossbows are designed to be spanned by hand, hence their draw weights are the same as bows.
