Go to WarFlail's Archives - June 2002

Friday, 31 May 2002

For the past week or two, you would have received a 403 - Forbidden message whenever you tried to access WarFlail's Archives. Also, you might have seen pop-up requests for username and password when attempting to download certain files from the House Rules page. These are the side effects of some security changes that Leitchy made at his www.harnlist.com site, where these files are located. I'm currently waiting on him to get back to Oz from his international trip so he can rectify the problem. So, until then, sorry for the inconvenience and please bear with us.

Latest announcement from Columbia Games:

New HârnQuest articles have shipped

Dunir, Innkeeper and Ivashu have been mailed to all autoship customers. These new articles are available to order now in printed format. E-pub versions are coming soon.

Preview the first two pages of each new Hârn Article:

HQ1 is on its way! I'm really looking forward to receiving it.

A thousand apologies for the recent lack of updates - I've been away on business again, this time a bit longer than planned. So, what's been happening while I've been gone?

HârnMaster Character Tool Columbia Games have announced the upcoming release of the first official HârnMaster character database, which generates and stores characters on your computer. The demo is available here:

HârnMaster Character Tool

Having been one of the privileged few to work as a beta-tester on this product, I can attest that it is indeed an excellent tool - a must-have for any serious Hârn GM. Mikael Hegardt has put in an awesome amount of time to getting the tool up and running, and his fastidious attention to detail (with perhaps a little bit of assistance from pedantic Hârniacs like me cracking the whip every now and then) ensures an application that will do its job quickly and without error. Watch for it!

Of course, there are a few new additions to HÂRN LINK to announce:

www.harnmaster.net by Matthias Janßen

Matthias' site is supposed to be a forum where those who don't have a website of their own can publish their material. The first submissions have already been published. There's also a forum where the material can be discussed online.

Hârn Player's Handbook by Jefferson Krogh

This site was spotted by Shane9. It appears to be a sample of the type of work that the web author (a graphic designer, by the looks of things) is capable of presenting. It is not exactly a fan site, but it does showcase a sample Fantasy Hero character for Hârn.

Isle of Dragons by Steven Kudolis

Also spotted by Shane9, this site is a Hârn campaign site that was written for the GURPS system. Well, the campaign isn't actually set on Hârn (can't really tell you more without giving the game away)... Regardless, it does look interesting - check it out.

Kelestia.org.uk by Steve Williams

This is the new site by the author of the erstwhile Dwarven Forge site. Still an 'Open Beta Build', the site is developing nicely. There are some excellent resources here that are well worth a look - even one or two references to the GunMaster Gold rules I wrote a while back! :-)

Another addition to HÂRN LINK is this site by Mattias Svensson:

QUIcenter - HârnMaster

I've put the link to the English version of Mattias' site instead of the original Swedish version, mostly because I can't read Swedish! :-) Anyway, it's a small site but has some impressive resources that any HârnMaster GM would find very useful. Need to generate a ship asap using Pilot's Almanac rules? Want to know the armour stats for non-standard armour such as lamellar, brigantine and Elven Mail? Then look no further!

Saturday, 4 May 2002

The latest addition to HÂRN LINK is the following site by Patrick Nilsson:

Hârn Tales

Many of you HârnGamers would already know of Patrick's awesome Swords & Shields fansite, with its splendid artwork, professional-quality maps and useful articles. However, Hârn Tales is different in that it invites GMs to contribute their Hârnic adventure campaigns for other GMs to appreciate and use, all in one convenient website. A terrific idea, although I'm not so sure I'd want my players rifling through it... :-) If you're a GameMaster, check it out!
