Today's my wife's birthday. Happy Birthday, Scully! :-)

I'm back. While I was in Los Angeles, my old friend Leonie and her husband Brett drove up all the way from San Diego to see me - that was wonderful.

Also while travelling, I picked up a budget DVD-ROM drive made by I/O Magic for US$129 (too much, I know, but what's a traveller to do?) from CompUSA in Los Angeles. It wasn't my first choice - I had originally wanted to get the Pioneer DVD-114 10X DVD-ROM recommended by Sharky Extreme, but couldn't wait 3 weeks for delivery - but I must say that for the money, the MagicDVD 8X is pretty good. Installation was a breeze. The drive is pretty basic but at least it isn't region-locked and DVD movies play perfectly on my Celeron 375MHz (o/c from 333) with the supplied WinDVD software (with a little region-freeing help from DVD Genie...).

Since I can now watch DVD movies on my PC, I reasoned that I needed a decent set of speakers with which to listen to them! Since my existing speakers are cheap rubbish purchased in Bali over 5 years ago, on impulse I went out to my local Electronics Boutique and bought a Logitech SoundMan X1 (the X2 would have been nicer but I do have a mortgage...). Spend, baby, spend! :-)

House Rules Update: Version 1.1 of GunMaster Gold is now available for download. It incorporates all the minor corrections made in version 1.0, plus it changes the attributes required for the Firearms and Grenade Launcher skills. Also changed is the skill specialisation rule on page 5, to conform with HârnMaster Gold's rules. Also updated is the GMG skills list, which incorporates the changes made to generating the Skill Base of modern weapon skills.

Once again, I'm off on business. See you in a couple of weeks! :-)

KUNG HEI FAT CHOI

Happy Chinese New Year - welcome to the year 4697. The Year of the Dragon arrives with the second new moon following the winter solstice (northern hemisphere, anyway). So, what's it all about? There's plenty of information on the Web, but you really do have to sift through a lot of rubbish sites to get to them. Try here for a fairly decent start.
